Synopsis: the challenge heats up in the Hoenn region
After settling into Hoenn, Ash keeps chasing his dream of competing in the regional Pokémon League. With his loyal Pikachu at his side, he crosses the region in search of new Gym Badges, earning three over the course of the season against increasingly tough Gym Leaders. Between battles, the group runs into surprising wild Pokémon, eccentric Trainers, and of course Team Rocket, forever scheming to snatch Pikachu.
Meanwhile, May comes into her own as a Pokémon Coordinator. The young Trainer works the Contest circuit and claims her first three Ribbons, the entry ticket she needs if she ever wants to compete in the Grand Festival. That double race for Badges and Ribbons gives the season a brisk pace where every stop on the journey matters, and it is a big part of why streaming Pokémon Season 7 remains such a great entry point for discovering (or rediscovering) the Advanced Generation era.
The characters of Season 7
Ash and Pikachu
As determined as ever, Ash sharpens his battling style and levels up his Hoenn team. His Treecko, his Taillow, and newcomer Torkoal grow stronger by the episode, while Pikachu remains his go-to partner whenever everything is on the line.
May and Max
May gains confidence with every Contest, learning how to showcase both the beauty and the power of her Pokémon on stage. Her little brother Max, still too young to be a Trainer, makes up for it with encyclopedic knowledge, and gets an emotional reunion with their father Norman, the Petalburg City Gym Leader.
Brock
The former Pewter City Gym Leader keeps watch over the group, cooks for everyone, and hands out big-brother advice along the way. His Lotad even evolves into Lombre during the season.
Misty's return
A treat for longtime fans: Misty briefly rejoins her friends in the two-parter "The Princess and the Togepi" and "A Togepi Mirage!". Her Togepi evolves into Togetic and chooses to stay behind to protect the Togepi Paradise, a bittersweet farewell for the Water-type Trainer.
Drew, May's rival
